The government limits what a person is aloud to say in the media for the public. A lot of the time they censor too much that they start to deceive the community just to make America look as free as the country leads on. However, when the Government does this they do not realize it violates a lot of people’s rights, such as the right of freedom of expression. Ideally, people have the right to speak their mind and express themselves freely. American values suggest Americans can say what they feel about any subject; our government clearly grants that in the 1st amendment. Therefore, the media should not be censored no matter as much as it is, no matter how bad the story makes the government look. Furthermore, if a person does not like something about the governments, they are allowed to express their opinions, correct? Also, in media entertainment a lot of the words or scenes are censored and I do not think that should happen as often as it does, because it also violates the first amendment not only to the performers, but sometimes even the audience. Along with people being able to say whatever they want whenever they want, viewers are able to see whatever they want too. A person that lives in this country is granted many rights and therefore they deserve to get them, because personally I feel like I’m being lied to and if our government takes away a very important right such as the right to freely express yourself and express your opinions, then they should not have created the amendment in the first place.

Web. 30 June 199 According to a 1997 Madison Capital Times article, a UW Professor agrees with the overturning of the 1996 Communications Decency Act prohibiting any any display of offensive material accessible by children. However, he raises the point of the type of implicit and explicit censorship that comes out of a mono-polistic media system. He talks about how the internet was made from tax dollars so it really is made by the people; and if the people don't get to choose what's on it, is it really for the people. Also, in a BBC article, it addresses USA, like other countries are trying to step up their restrictions on the interment and with their media.
